Vega Ambassador Meagan Duhamel just returned to Canada with a silver medal from the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Her and her partner, Eric Radford, are two-time Canadian National Pairs Champion and currently ranked 3rd in the world. Vega HQ and all of our remote employees watched with rapt attention their medal-winning program in the inaugural team figure skating Ice Dancing event. As a plant-based holistic nutritionist, she credits nutrition at accelerating her performance on the rink. We had a chance to sit down with Meagan to discuss her performances and training tips.
Interview with Meagan Duhamel
What was your favorite moment from the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi?
“My favorite moment of the Olympics was our short program in the Team Figure Skating Event. We had the best skate of our careers, and to finish our program at center of the rink, on top of the Olympic rings was very special. We skated with our heart in that performance and felt very emotionally involved. It was so great to come off the ice and see all our teammates cheering us on in the “kiss and cry” area.”
You are obviously an inspiration to many aspiring ice skaters around the world. Who did you aspire to be when you were growing up? And who inspires you most in the sport today?
“I always aspired to be like all the great skaters I watched on TV: Elvis Stojko, Kurt Browning, Tara Lipinski and Michelle Kwan. They all skated with so much passion and heart.”
“My biggest inspiration today comes from my partner Eric. We are always thinking of new ways to push the sport and push ourselves to become better skaters and a better Pairs team. We also admire the German Pairs team, Savchenko and Szolkowy. They are 4-time World Champions and they have really pushed the sport of pairs skating by trying different, difficult moves and choreography. They really evolved Pairs figure skating over their career and one day Eric and I hope to be as great as them!”
Give us a snapshot of your morning routine at Sochi. How did you start your day?
“The most important part of my morning routine is making sure my body is ready to go once I get to my early morning training session. This means waking up 2 hours before leaving my house. I stretch, roll out on the foam roller and wake up my body before eating a green smoothie for breakfast.”
Do you have any favorite pump-up songs?
“I love a wide variety of music! Everything from Elle Goulding to Coldplay to One Republic to Blake Shelton.”
What are you most looking forward to post-Sochi?
“I am really looking forward to a bit of rest but that won’t happen until June! We have the World Championships in one month and then we go on tour with Stars on Ice after that. And somehow between all of this, I’m planning on buying a house!”
What advice would you have for future Olympians?
“The advice I would give to future Olympians is to enjoy their journey. The journey is so special and the Olympics are an amazing destination, but if the journey was no fun you won’t be satisfied.”

“Thriving means to me that one is living their passion day in a day out. Thriving means following your heart, living in the moment and making the most of each moment. I try to thrive every day!”
