Potatoes aren’t alone in the fry game. Tofu is crashing this party in a big way. With a Maple BBQ sauce subbing in for ketchup make these tofu fries for your new go-to snack or side.
Ingredients
- Maple BBQ Sauce:
- 1/4 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 1/2 cup organic or homemade ketchup
- 4 Tbsp soy or tamari
- 1 Tbsp liquid smoke
- 1 tsp dry mustard
- 1 Tbsp coconut oil
- 1 Tbsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- cayenne, as desired for heat
- Baked Tofu Fries
- 1 (350 gram) package firm tofu, or pre-pressed tofu, cut into lengthwise strips
- A dash of olive oil
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt and pepper

Maple BBQ Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, cook onion, garlic and olive oil and maple syrup for 5-10 minutes or until onions are translucent.
- Add to blend with other ingredients and blend until smooth.
- Keep in fridge for up to 3 weeks.

Baked Tofu Fries:
- Preheat oven to 375F.
- Using pressed tofu? Skip this step!If using firm tofu instead of pressed, on a cookie sheet, lay a clean kitchen towel. Lay tofu in one layer on one half of towel and fold the other half of the towel over top of tofu. Lay another cookie sheet on top of tofu and weight it down with a few heavy cans. Leave to press for 20 minutes.
- Cut tofu into ½ inch thick sticks and brush each side with oil. Sprinkle each side with spices.
- Line cookie sheet with parchment paper and place tofu in a single layer on top.
- Bake for 12- 15 minutes per side. Serve with homemade maple BBQ sauce.
