QA Documentation Specialist

An exciting and challenging position exists as the QA Documentation Specialist at Vega’s head office in Burnaby, BC. Reporting to QA Document Control Manager, the Quality Assurance (QA) Documentation Specialist will be mainly responsible for the Finished Product Specifications (FPS), Raw Material Specifications and all associated documentation (Item Set-up Forms, Change Controls and Deviations) for the QA department at Vega. Day-to-day, you will be responsible for leading, developing and modifying finished product specifications, raw material specs, initiating and documenting change controls, attending core-team meetings and other duties as assigned by the QA Document Control Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop product specifications
  • Working with various departments (eg. procurement, production, food safety etc) to develop specifications
  • Review specifications and ensure sign-off across all departments
  • Work with manufacturing counter-parts to develop and finalizing (sign – off) specifications
  • Initiate and lead the implementation change controls, deviations and non-conformance reports
  • Maintain CC, DEV database
    • Communicate documents with co-manufacturers and partners
    • Help coordinate impact assessment of changes across various department functions
    • Track and provide monthly summary of documentation to team
    • Follow up on all outstanding documents to ensure full closure
  • Act as a back-up for core-team meetings for Innovation projects attendance
    • Support innovation launches by attending core-team meetings and reporting status to the QA team
    • Pull appropriate additional QA support into meetings as needed
  • Participate in organoleptic testing on weekly basis
  • Write work instructions when needed/as assigned
  • Assist and participate in annual mock recalls

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in QA
  • Familiar with Canadian Food & Drug Acts and Regulation for Food and Natural Health Products and FDA regulations for Food and Dietary Supplements is a must
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations (HACCP and GFSI standards) as a strong asset
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook etc.)
  • Strong project management skills
  • Strong Analytical mind-set
  • Experience working with SharePoint an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and self-disciplined individual
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment
  • Strong follow-up, organization, and prioritization skills
